This beetle was a mess when I got it. It had a mixture of 6 and 12 volt parts. I have no idea how it even ran. I’ve taken everything apart, painted the fan shroud and put new transmission mounts, axle boots and much more. I put in a new alternator and replace all the 6 volt parts with 12 volt. I’ll list all the details soon along with more photos.
NICE! thank you for rescuing a VW! Nothing in the world will teach you more about sensible thinking and mechanics than a broken one! One thing though..i would try and find a bentley manual for your vw. while the haynes is a good start (and the Idiots guide can get you out of a jam) the bentley is the technical bible for these things.
Richard is right. Get a Bentley manual. It’s well worth the money. I have a Haynes manual too, but I wouldn’t do without the Bentley. Good luck on your Bug. My son has a ’77 Super Beetle Vert. I have a ’74 Super Beetle and a ’63 Beetle project car.
Thanks. Glad to see many others keeping the beetles alive.
Thanks Richard.
